Now that you have thoroughly researched the work of other artists and recorded your own observations through photographs, you are ready to bring all of your knowledge together to create your own unique ideas.
This stage in the project is an opportunity for you to try out all of the ideas you have had so far, so each sketch should be completely unique and be influenced by the work you have created so far. Not all of your ideas may be successful, but that's okay since you won't develop them all into final outcomes and we can learn valuable lessons from our failures as well as our successes. Not every sketch on your page needs to be completed perfectly - you aren't creating your final piece just yet, so see this as an opportunity to record your ideas before you improve them.
Each of your ideas should: - Clearly link to the theme of the project (distortion). - Be an appropriate outcome for the project (so all of your designs should look like a CD cover - be square, include a main image and suitable typography) - Be influenced by the artists you’ve researched. This could be through your use of techniques, colour schemes, processes or subject matter. - Be appropriate for the musicgenre of the band you are creating your CD cover for. - Be original, so all the sketches should look different from each other. - Could incorporate ideas from your mind map. - Could be inspired by images you included on your mood board.
Example of six different line drawings - these could be improved by showing where the text would go.
Green (grade 1-3) a) Download the template and create 4 possible ideas sketches - you might complete these as basic line drawings or you can draw them digitally if you would like.
b) Photograph/upload work to your site. c) Underneath your images, reflect on your favourite design. Use the sentence starters below My favourite design is... I think it is the most successful design because... I have been inspired by (name of artist, designer or CD cover) It links to the theme of distortion by... I might improve my idea by...
Amber (grade 4-5) a) Download the amber template and create four possible designs - use line drawing and you may add colour pencil (link your colours to your genre).
b) Photograph/upload work to your site. c) Underneath your images, review your two favourite possible designs, answer the following questions in your reflection and/or use the template sentence starters - How have you incorporated the influence of the artists you have researched? - How do your designs link to the theme of the project? - Why did you choose the typography you have included? - Why did you choose the layout you did? - What do you think has been successful in your designs? - How might you develop your favourite idea?
Red (grades 6+) a) Download the red template and create six possible designs using a variety of media/techniques. Try to ensure that the subject matter/media/techniques/concepts behind your designs clearly connect to work you have created and researched earlier in the project.
