Now that you have shown that you fully understand all of the different creative decisions which go into the creation of film posters it is time for you to begin developing an idea for your own film poster. Rather than creating posters for films which already exist, you will be devising your own unique idea for a film which you will use to inspire the imagery, typography, colour scheme and layout for your own poster.
During your lessons in school, you will: - Use a random plot generator to come up with a rough outline for your film's plot - Decide on a title for your film - Devise the film's tagline
Whilst these things alone could be enough for you to come up with creative ideas for your film's poster, having a more in depth knowledge of your film's plot and characters will enable you to be more creative with your decisions.
Task 1: Watch the video to learn more about story arcs - this will help you to understand the language you need to use when talking about your movie's plot/filling out the template below.
Green (grade 1/2) a) Download the story arc template:
b) Complete the sheet using the film idea you came up with in lesson as your inspiration. So, if you came up with an idea for a film called 'The Script' with the tagline 'Everyone has their own story...' you would fill out the template with more information about the plot of that film. c) Upload your completed template to your site underneath the title '(name of your film) Story Arc'. Remember to 'share' your work if you used Google Slides to complete it.
Amber (grade 3/4) a) Complete the Story Arc template in the green task and upload your work to your site b) Download and complete the character profile sheet below using information about the main character in your story:
c) Upload your completed character profile to your site underneath the title 'My Movie's Main Character Profile'. Remember to 'share' your work if you used Google Slides to complete it.
Red (grades 5+) a) Using the diagrams below to help you, write a brief synopsis of your film. This could be written as paragraphs, bullet points or as a mind map. Be creative with how you present your ideas e.g. make it look as though it is an authentic movie pitch written using a vintage typewriter.
b) Use the examples below to help you write a brief character description of your main character. If you already know who you will use as a model for your main character, you could include a photograph of them in your description.
c) Upload your completed synopsis and character profile to your site underneath the titles '(name of film) Plot Synopsis' and 'My Movie's Main Character Profile'. Remember to 'share' your work if you used Google Slides to complete it.
