It is all too easy nowadays to forget the richness of the history of Photography and not to take the time to learn from the masters of the past. When searching for artists to inspire their work, pupils often find the online blogs of what we call 'Sunday photographers' (people who aren't professionals, but enjoy Photography as a hobby) and then have trouble researching them or finding consistent style which they work in.
Museum websites and online resources are a great way to tackle this problem, and they also offer knowledge and insight into the photographers you should know as a student of Photography.
MoMA is short for the Museum of Modern Art which is one of the main galleries in New York. It houses one of the largest photography collections in the world and during lockdown they made a series of videos which tell you more about well known photographers, how they create their photographs and how the museum itself looks after their collection.
The task: Green (grade 1/2) a) Watch the Live Q&A which MoMA posted to Youtube. b) Tell me three things you have learnt on the Google Classroom assignment.
Amber (grade 3/4) a) Watch the video & make a note of any photographers whose work interests you. Keep your notes safe as you may like to include the photographers in one of your projects later on. b) Share your notes with me on the Google Classroom.
Red (grades 5+) a) Watch the video & make a note of any photographers whose work interests you as you watch. Keep your notes safe as you may like to include the photographers in one of your projects later on. b) Create a MoMA mood board of 8+ photographs which you discovered as a result of watching this video - they may all be the work of one photographer whose work you enjoyed and then you researched or you can include several. This should be a mood board which you find inspirational so what you choose to include is totally up to you. c) Share your mood board with me on the Google Classroom and add it to the 'Basics' page of your site. Remember, if you have created your work using Google Slides you should download your mood board as a jpeg and then upload it to your site.
