This project is part of your coursework which will be submitted towards your GCSE Photography grades, and forms part of 60% of the course. It will run until December, after which you will start a second coursework project. You will then return to this project in Year 11 to develop it further when your skills are even stronger.
For thousands of years the human figure has appeared in art. Early cave paintings show figures of hunters simply depicted using a few strokes. In ancient Greece human figures were the main subject on decorated vases.
Through the ages the human figure has appeared in both art and photography. It is a theme which been used to tell stories or express beliefs, or to explore the very idea of what it is to be human - and these are the ideas that we will be focussing on in this project.
The first step of any project is to take a look at a variety of inspirational images. We can record this first stage of our research by creating mood boards. The images you choose to include should help to give you ideas of how you might like to respond to the theme you have been given and the work of artists whose work you may like to research should be included.
